The three-year course of Fashion Styling and Art Direction weaves visual culture, fashion history and analysis of the present with photography, video, graphic design and art direction. It moves through publishing, campaigns, sets and performance, framing styling as a narrative, critical and interdisciplinary practice.
The BA in Photography explores how images are made, how they move through the world, and how they shape contemporary culture. Through an integrated mix of critical theory and hands-on practice, students engage with an expanded idea of photography expanding into social sciences, performance, multimedia installation, and curatorial design among others.
The Distance We Carry (2026)
What does it mean to inhabit a space, a landscape, a body, or a memory? Far from being a static condition, inhabiting is an ongoing negotiation between inner realities and external forces: the architectures we build, the natural environments we engage with, and the social and economic structures that shape us. Through photography, sculpture, zines, installation, and video, nineteen artists from IED Milan explore inhabiting as an experience of transformation, reclaiming the capacity to act within both intimate and collective spaces.
The works guide viewers through an exploration of the self (Abby Hope Michals and Fiorella Villagran), the environments we move through (Niccolò Gregorio and Chris Hartman), their transience (Martina Madrì and Ihor Kshyzhevskyi), or their lasting presence within our lived experience (Davide Consonni and Ugnė Andriejunaite), and finally our relationship with the social and economic systems we have helped to build (Veronika Tykhomyrova).
Taken together, these works demonstrate that inhabiting is an act of survival, resistance, and creation: a process of encountering the world as we are while forging a sense of home amid constant change.
