Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera

The students participating in the project attended the Photography Course taught by Prof. Cosmo Laera as part of their diploma program at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. Although their training is interdisciplinary, they are all highly motivated to explore the medium of photography in all its possible forms. The versatility with which they approach the theme of ABITO in its various meanings is the result of constant exploration that highlights, for each of them, a personal and original evolution of their artistic language.

Abito, quindi esisto [I live, therefore I am] (2026)

Identity and otherness are inseparable and essential to interpreting space, our relationship with the landscape and daily life, revealing themselves in how we live and present ourselves to the outside world.

In a social context, clothing serves as a protective shell, but it is also a screen onto which others project their perceptions and feelings. The individual demonstrates their capabilities through their relationship with real or virtual space, and photography emerges as the unique fabric that unites all elements of comparison into a single expressive experience.

Appearing and acting are the next step: from the broader experience of creative syntax, one arrives at the construction of an image linked to photography while respecting bodies, physical features, and one’s personal history. This compels the artist to engage in a narrative of their own formal solution—whether centered on their own life or that of others—by observing models and stylistic elements of parallel existences.

The potential of these works lies entirely in their consistency with the artist’s own choices; unlike the images that crowd our devices, they are the true embodiment of their expressive capacity—the fabric through which one can strive to always be oneself, wherever and however.
