Emanuela Capuano

Emanuela Capuano was born and raised in Milan.
She graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts with a degree in New Technologies in Art (NTA), focusing in particular on video art.
Her work centers on the social dimension, which she explores through pieces that use artistic language as a tool for critical and poetic inquiry.
At the same time, she works on the manipulation of everyday objects and situations, transforming them into visual signs that take on new meanings. This space for experimentation also encompasses a more intimate and narrative exploration: video as a diary, confession, and personal narrative.
Sound, social critique, the manipulation of reality, and individual stories intertwine in her projects, giving rise to works that aim to evoke emotion and reflection, maintaining a balance between the personal dimension and the collective gaze.

Sottovoce [Hushed voices] (2023)

The project explores sound as a form of storytelling for human expression, from the most primordial sounds to the development of language and music, in relation to the theme of “dwelling,” understood both as a space and as a condition of being.
Divided into three phases, Sottovoce questions the idea that communication must always be immediate, proposing instead listening as a sensory and personal experience.
The voices that make up the auditory element are not intended to be deciphered; rather, they create a suspended and uncertain atmosphere, representing a phase of transformation: the voice is born and learns to inhabit language. Sounds and intonations suggest an evolution, leaving room for the listener’s own interpretation.
The heartbeat accompanies the entire composition as a symbol of life, time, and growth, reinforcing the idea of sound as a space to inhabit.
